What Cancer Cannot Do – Part 9

9. Cancer cannot hinder my love for the Lord and my thankfulness to Him for His goodness and mercy as my Great Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

Psalm 23:1-6

After understanding the analogy of the shepherd and his flock and the history of shepherding as well as what they do, this psalm is much more powerful.

The shepherds job is to lead the flock to green pasture and clean water to feed. He also watches over them as the eat and rest. He protects them with his shepherd crook when wolves attack. When a sheep goes astray, he will go find it and bring it back.

The sheep is reliant on the shepherd for food and safety, just as we are reliant on our Lord. He will always be there and we can rest in His flock.
